The "flowing" art is a handful of simple explorations of flow fields made with Perlin noise, inspired by this article.
The square subdivisions are a longtime favorite of mine. I use an algorithm where the canvas is initialized to mid-grey, then recursively divided into quadrants. During each iteration, the color of each quadrant is randomly shifted. The initial color shifts are large, but their magnitudes exponentially decay over time.
